News has broken that rapping pop star Becky G has been cast as the Yellow Ranger in LionsGate’s theatrical reboot of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers which is tentatively being called Saban’s Power Rangers. Otherwise known as Becky Gomez, G is known to music fans for her work as a recording artist for Sony Music’s Kemosobe Records with famed producer Dr. Luke. As a virally fueled music sensation, Becky has become known for songs like “Wish U Were Here” with Australian pop star Cody Simpson, “Oath” with British pop star Cher Lloyd, her 2014 album Can’t Stop Dancin’, and its lead single “Shower.”

According to her bio, Becky first broke into acting in Spanish TV film in 2008. As her celebrity grew, and she became a Top 40 breakthrough artist, she then used that growing pop presence to transition into bigger and more demanding roles. Her most involved role to date is her recurring role as Valentina Galindo on season 2 of the Fox hit Empire.

Becky G joins her already announced Power Ranger castmates, Naomi Scott, Dacre Montgomery, Ludi Lin, and RJ Cyler. Saban’s Power Rangers is currently in preproduction. LionsGate is planning for a 2017 release date. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more details.
