Pop/Rock band Maroon 5 has returned to the music scene after a taking a break through much of 2008 and some of 2009. Now the guys are finally ready to release their highly anticipated third studio album, Hands All Over. The album was recorded through most of last year when the band relocated to Switzerland to record with legendary Rock producer, Robert “Mutt” Lange. Lange is a British producer that can easily be considered one of the most successful Rock producer in Pop  music. Lange has been known for bringing out the best in countless numbers of musical acts including, AC/DC, Def Lepard, Foreigner, Bryan Adams, The Cars, Nickelback,  and even Shania Twain.

While Lange had his “hands all over” as producer of the album, the album was still primarily written by the band members. Even though front-man, Adam Levine has been known to collaborate with everyone from Alicia Keys, Kanye West, to even the Ying Yang Twins, the only collaboration from guest vocalists on the album will be from Lady Antebellum on the song “Out Of Goodbyes.”

Hands All Over is not due in stores until September 21st, but fans do not have to wait that long to hear from the guys! The first single from Hands All Over, “Misery” was released digitally by Octoone/A&M/Interscope Records on June 22nd. The song, co-written by Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael and Phantom Planet bass player Sam Farrar has already reached #44 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #19 on Billboard’s Hot Adult Top 40 Chart. Plus the guys plan on touring to support the album starting on July 30, 2010 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Joining them on the tour as supporting opening acts will be V.V Brown and Owl City.

Warner Music Group Does A 360

We hope all of you had a wonderful holiday celebrating our wonderful nation’s independence.  Being the music geeks that they are, their holiday was spent thinking about the music industry, and it’s several changes it’s undergone, while they were unable to travel because of work.  This work focused weekend was partially inspired by after we were passed a thought provoking article by MICHAEL FITZGERALD and Fast Company.com entitled “How Warner Music and Its Musicians Are Combating Declining Album Sales.”   The article gives music biz heads like the Clizbe’s an intimate look into the thought process of Atlantic Records COO Julie Greenwald, and  her boss Lyor Cohen,  North American Chairman and CEO of Atlantic’s parent company Warner Music Group, as they discuss the declining economic status of the industry, and how they’ve begun to turn things around in the digital age, to actually turn what is claimed to be, a 60% digital music profit.      In the article both Greenwald and Cohen sing the praises of evolving the industry to happily standardize the implementation of 360 style record deals, that actively morphs the label’s role to handle three hundred and sixty degrees of an artist’s including career including marketing, concerts, and merchandizing.  It is particularly fascinating because of the precedence Atlantic’s success will set for this changing industry.  While some art lovers may oldschool business model managers maybe against this method, claiming that they would be talking money out of the pockets of artist, remember the the industry isn’t making much to begin with, and if they can make some changes to generate a little bit of revenue, and healthily funded competition, it should turn out to aid to the growth of quality music.  Check out the article here and see what you think.

Pearl Future

Covering the world of music, one thing has proven to very common, when it comes to talented musicians, sometimes you can expect the uncommon when discovering the uncommonly  talented.  This is also true for Las Vegas native Pearl Future. Now an award winning song writter, she found a home in recording studios growing up around a verity  of music producers teaching her the ways of music.  While other teens went the more typical route of going to school, socializing with classmates, and occasionally dating.  Not Pearl.  For her, the studio was her classroom.  By the time she was 16, she was a pro, recording her own recording sessions, and deep in song writing and recording.  Now she is ready to share some of what she’s been working on, and has some of the best in the game joining her on tracks, showing her some love.

albumcoverEnrique Iglesias returns his eagerly-anticipated new album, Euphoria. With its seductive pop, driving hip hop beats and heart of pure passion, Euphoria is set to bring a rush of blood to the dancefloor, with VIP guests including Akon, Nicole Scherzinger, Usher, Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin and Yandel, Juan Luis Guerra and the legendary Lionel Richie.

His most diverse, eclectic collection to date, Euphoria is also Enrique’s first album to feature songs sung in both Spanish and English. “This territory is so exciting for me,” says Enrique. “It taps into so many different styles of music. It’s like nothing I’ve ever done before.”

‘I Like It’ is the first international single from the forthcoming album, produced by Red One, it features a vocal cameo from Lionel Richie, reprising the chorus of his timeless hit ‘All Night Long’. The track is an upbeat floor-filler and comes backed with a crazy hot remix from #1 selling US rapper Pitbull (‘I Know You Want Me’). Enrique was thrilled to work with his friend Lionel Richie, but it was Pitbull who really took it out of him. “Man, working with Pitbull, it’s like he’s got everybody in the world’s mojo, his energy is so intense. And shooting the video together was just insane… ”

Other tracks on Euphoria include Enrique’s Spanish-language smash ‘Cuando Me Enamoro’, featuring Latin superstar Juan Luis Guerra, which crash landed in top 10s across Latin America and Spain on its release. Then there’s the sizzling ‘Heartbeat’, a duet with Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls. It’s utterly pop but emotionally naked. Says Enrique, “If you can create an upbeat song and still put sentiment in it like that… man, that song is raw.”

‘One Day At A Time’, is a departure into mellow calypso, the melody coming to Enrique after he had spent so long battling on the song that he was driving home from the studio in despair. “I turned straight round and went back to record it,” explains the perfectionist. “It was one of those special songs that make you fight for it.” ‘Dirty Dancer’ is a party piece, thick with slamming synthesisers and featuring vocals from Usher, who announces that this is a song “for the dirty girls, all around the world.”

Born in Spain, raised in Miami, and now an international superstar, Enrique discovered his musical talent young, but got his first record deal from a small Mexican label while using a fake name. In 1995 he won a Grammy for his first ever Spanish release (Enrique Iglesias) and in 1999 his eponymous English language debut went on to sell six million albums, go double-platinum in the US, and achieve gold or platinum status in 32 countries. Since then he has had a string of successful albums, from Escape (2001), 7 (2003) and Insomniac(2007) to hisGreatest Hits album (2008), while his sold-out world tours have established him as a captivating live performer.

In the US he is one of the biggest-selling Spanish artists of all time, with over 12 million albums sold and 19 #1 Billboard Latin hits across the Americas. Meanwhile, in the UK Enrique has sold 2.2 million albums and 1.6 million singles, the biggest of which – the inimitable ‘Hero’ – spent four weeks at #1 and is now a staple of teary X Factor scenes. Enrique has had 12 top 20 singles, and six Top 10 singles in the UK, including ‘Bailamos’‘Could I Have This Kiss Forever’‘Escape’‘Not In Love’ (ft Kelis), and ‘Do You Know’.

Traditionally, Latin artists release Spanish and English versions of the same songs. “But I always wanted to combine completely different songs, rather than translate them,” Enrique explains. “I’d write one I liked in Spanish, but then I’d write one I liked even more in English, so then there’d be this internal competition to write an even better one in Spanish, and vice versa. The US is now the biggest market for Spanish songs, so this is an experiment.”

“I know people always believe their new record is the best thing they’ve ever done, but truly, this record is my most diverse, my most exciting and the most surprising album I’ve made in my career,” he says, grinning wildly.  The anticipation is tangible.

Big Boi & Vonnegutt say “Follow Us”

Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty From Purple Ribbon/Def Jam Records/IDJMG

Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty From Purple Ribbon/Def Jam Records/IDJMG

It has been over seven long years since the release of Outkast’s groundbreaking album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003. It was then when we first saw a glimpse of solo material from both Outkast members, Big Boi and Andre 3000.  Now Big Boi is beginning to to blow up as being possibly the hottest thing in 2010 to hit Hip Hop out of Atlanta since B.O.B’s musical slam dunk earlier this year.  As many fans already know, Big Boi has left the Jive Label Group’s LaFace Records, only to reunite with LaFace founder and current Island Def Jam President Antonio “LA” Reid  to find a new home for his highly anticipated  official debut solo album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (To be release by Island Def Jam’s Def Jam Records) . The album originally was attempted to be release on LaFace/Jive Records/Jive Label Group. There were even two promo singles under LaFace/Jive in 2008 that were intended for the project. Eventually after the project lost momentum under Jive, it was then when Big Boi opted to leave them and sign with Def Jam.

Rebounding and keeping that artistic fire that fans know and love for the latest album wouldn’t be without its challenges. Naturally, he faced some obsticles as he added to the trend of album’s either switching direction mid project, and even worse, switching record companies mid project.

(Most recently seen with the change in direction for Diddy’s Last Train To Paris album after his label Bad Boy Records chose to switch distributing partner labels from Atlantic Records to Interscope Records. Also Five For Fighting re-released his album, Slice with Wind-Up Records this year after his previous label, Aware/Columbia Records released it in 2009.)

These distinct changes created two high profile albumless singles that were forced to stand alone called  ”Sumthin’s Gotta Give”  featuring Mary J. Blidge, and “Royal Flush” Featuring Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon, and Andre 3000 (originally from 2008).  The common rumor was that these two songs were stopped from formal release as a part of Jive’s reaction to his move over to Def Jam.

Reasons for the label change  aside, removal of the two tracks was just a speed bump to what has turned out to be an all around great album.   This is a particularly poignant statement  for us here at Clizbeats.com, because in addition to the signature sound that he provides, his album is full of Clizbeats featured artists. Some of those include Clizbeats favorites like,  Janelle Monae, B.o.B  AKA Bobby Ray, and now one that is lesser known, but always buzz worthy and Clizbeats supported, Vonnegutt.  The guys from Vonnegutt are in fact featured on the next single to be released from the album called “Follow Us.”   Listen to the boys of Vonnegutt do their thing on “Follow Us”.  If you dig it, be sure to check out their own music that we’ve listed below as well.  Love those guys!

Last night when watching the MTV documentary, Drake: Better Than Good Enough, Craig & Matt Clizbe of Clizbeats.com were taken by surprise when they discovered that Drake’s producer, Noah “40″ Shebib was living with Multiple Sclerosis. Being two young men that live with the  physical disability of Cerebral Palsy when trying to find a career pathway in this business, it can become harder than they could ever put into words just to achieve their goals. Knowing the body of work of “40″ and hearing his struggle is something that resonates with Clizbeats in a deep way. Seeing that clip of last night’s special was very inspirational.

New John Mayer Music Video “Half Of My Heart” Featuring Taylor Swift

John Mayer

Singer/song writer, John Mayer has recently released his new video for “Half Of My Heart” featuring Country/Pop phenomenon, Taylor Swift. The single follows up, “Heartbreak Warefare”, a single that’s release was eclipsed by John’s controversial interview with Playboy Magazine. Despite, his latest album, Battle Studies’ critical acclaim, he has not been able to rebound commercially quite the same since. His radio presence has dropped significantly. However that has potential to change with the help of Taylor Swift dueting on the track. John recently said in an interview for, John Mayer On The Record With Fuse (Fuse.tv) he was not putting her on the album just to sell more copies for die-hard fans of Taylor Swift that might just get the album for that song. He goes on to talk about how he felte heavily inspired to play the role of Tom Petty on a record, and Taylor would be the perfect to play the role of the Stevie Nicks role on his song.  With that said, however hopefully people will be able enjoy John’s good muisic once again as he officially releases the single for “Half Of My Heart” on June 28th. The video is currently beginning to enter rotation on VH1 and various other music channels. It looks like a pretty cool video despite Taylor Swift not appearing in the video.

TANK JOINS WITH ATLANTIC RECORDS

June 23, 2010

Atlantic_Records-logoAtlantic Records welcomes a new addition to its storied roster of legendary R&B artists with the signing of Grammy Award-nominated superstar Tank.  The acclaimed singer/songwriter/producer is set to make his label debut this week with “Sex Music,” his first new solo track in more than three years.  The single is just arriving at multi-format Urban and Rhythmic radio outlets nationwide, heralding Tank’s long awaited fourth album, to be entitled “NOW OR NEVER,” scheduled for release later this year.
Born Durrell Babbs, Tank first attracted attention while working as one of Ginuwine’s backing vocalists.  In 2001, the Los Angeles-based artist released his RIAA gold-certified debut album, “FORCE OF NATURE,” which included his first Top 10 R&B hit, “Maybe I Deserve.” The album was also his first to make a #1 debut on Billboard’s “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” chart (coming in this time at #7 on the overall Billboard 200).
The following year saw the release of Tank’s second album, “ONE MAN.”  The single’s success saw Tank become one of R&B/hip-hop’s most in-demand producer/songwriter and he spent the next five years collaborating with such stars as Jamie Foxx, Monica, Omarion, Dave Hollister, Brian McKnight, Tyrese, Joe, and Marques Houston.  What’s more, Tank served as an associate member of the hit-making production team, The Underdogs, with further credits including the smash soundtrack to the 2006 musical film adaptation of Dreamgirls (in which he also made a cameo).
In 2007, Tank returned to his stellar solo career with his third album, “SEX, LOVE & PAIN,” which debuted atop Billboard’s “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” chart, while also coming in at #2 on the main Billboard 200.  The album’s first single, “Please Don’t Go,” proved equally successful, serving 15 weeks as the #1 single in urban radio, and reaching #2 on Billboard’s “R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.”  Furthermore, Tank received his first solo Grammy Award nominations for both “Best R&B Album” and “Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (celebrating “Please Don’t Go”).
Since then, Tank has lent his distinctive vocals to tracks by Kelly Rowland and his new Atlantic labelmate, Plies, while also continuing to help create hit records for an array of top artists, including Keri Hilson, Pleasure P, Omarion, Chris Brown, and Jamie Foxx.
