(New York, NY ) – superstar DJ and producer David Guetta continues to dominate in 2012 with his GRAMMY® nominated 5th studio album „Nothing But The Beat‟ (Capitol/Astralwerks) as #1 single “Without You” featuring Usher reaches double platinum status and new single “Turn Me On” featuring Nicki Minaj surpasses gold status. “Turn Me On” was the #1 selling single in the county last week, helping to push it to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The ascent marks Guetta‟s fourth Hot 100 top ten and matches his previous highest rank with “Without You.” “Turn Me On,” Guetta‟s 3rd single from „Nothing But The Beat‟ also moved into the top 15 on the Top 40 airplay charts this week and is rapidly climbing. It follows Guetta‟s first ever #1 Top 40 song “Without You” and the top 10, platinum-selling “Where Them Girls At” featuring Flo-Rida and Minaj. The video for “Turn Me On” was officially premiered on VEVO Today, January 31st.
Already named iTunes Rewind 2011: Best Dance Album, „Nothing But The Beat‟ is up for for “Best Dance/Electronica Album” at this year‟s GRAMMY® Awards and Guetta‟s electro track “Sunshine” which he produced with Swedish DJ Avicii is nominated for “Best Dance Recording.” Guetta won the GRAMMY® award for “Best Remixed Recording” back-to-back in 2010 and 2011.
A string of February U.S. shows have been announced starting Feb. 2nd at the Washington Ave Armory in Albany, NY. David Guetta has also been announced to headline Ultra Music Festival in Miami on March 25th and will headline the dance tent at Coachella on April 14th and 24th. Guetta‟s last visit to the states was in Nov/Dec 2011 when he opened the American Music Awards with Nicki Minaj, performed with Usher on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Ellen Degeneres Show and made the radio show festival rounds. The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that music and TV executive, Simon Cowell will be developing a new reality competition, only this time he will not be searching for singers. This time around it will be a competition searching for the world’s best DJ.
Through the years Simon has worked with some of the best singers in the world, but for this show Cowell will be one of the most well known people in Hip Hop who’s music has made an impact on the art of DJing. Cowell’s SYCO Entertainment is partnering with and Will and JadaPinkett Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television to launch the format, which is expected to be shopped internationally and domestically.
It is undeniable that Will Smith is one of the most accomplished actors and producers in Hollywood, but Hip Hop fans also remember him as one half of the groundbreaking group, DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince. While Jeff and Will became the first Rap group to ever win a Grammy Award in 1989 for “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” it is also important to note that the group did quite a bit to bring the Hip Hop art of DJing to mainstream America. They helped bring Hip Hop and Rap to new heights of popularity with their brand of radio friendly songs that achieved an unprecedented amount of Pop success. However with every Pop single the group released, they backed up with a majority of their album cuts devoted to showing DJ Jazzy Jeff’s talents as a DJ, and allowed him to expand the horizon of where the art form can go. Even as a solo artist in the 90s to the Pop music world, Will Smith never lost the value of having Jeff at his side. The two reunited on Will’s 1999 album, Willennium. They performed on the album together as “DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince” on the old school style songs “So Fresh’ and “Pump Me Up.”
Now as Pop music is becoming more and more inspired by electronic House music DJs are once again in the spotlight. As we first reported to you in December, French DJ David Guetta became the first DJ and music artist to be handprinted at the legendary Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Also other European DJs like Calvin Harris and Avicii are making an impact in America teaming up and inspiring artists like Rihanna and Flo Rida. Simon Cowell is seeing the power these people are having on the pulse of music as it is growing to become more and more multicultural.
“DJ’s are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show,” Cowell said in a recent statement. He took to his Twitter account with his excitement about the new show.
“Excited to announce new DJ show. I will NOT be judging this show. Excited to be working with @jadapsmith. Stay tuned!” (Jada Pinkett Pinkett Smith)

In the latest step to strengthen the new Motown Records, a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), acclaimed artist Ne-Yo will move from Def Jam Recordings to Motown along with his label imprint Compound Entertainment, and will also take on a creative role at Motown as the new Senior Vice President of A&R, it was announced today by Barry Weiss, Chairman & CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam Motown, and Ethiopia Habtemariam, Senior Vice President, Motown Records.
Based in New York, the multi-platinum, three-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist Ne-Yo will continue to work on his eagerly awaited fifth studio album, expected for summer release as his Motown debut. At the same time, Ne-Yo will take on A&R duties at Motown, serving as a producer and mentor to the label’s artists, as well as seeking out and signing new talent to the label. Ne-Yo, who has a co-starring role in Red Tails, the new George Lucas WWII movie about the U.S. Army Air Corps’ Tuskegee Airmen fighter pilots, will also be seen on NBC television’s upcoming season of The Voice, as a mentor for Cee-Lo Green’s team.
“Ne-Yo is an enormously talented artist, songwriter, and producer,” said Mr. Weiss, “in fact, he’s one of the greatest songwriters of our times. His track record of success at Def Jam will always be a benchmark. But this move to Motown will provide new and inspiring challenges for Ne-Yo, as both an artist and a key member of the new senior management team that is taking form at the label in 2012.”
“We are honored and humbled to have Ne-Yo as a part of the Motown family, as both a recording artist and in an A&R role,” said Ms. Habtemariam, who has recently taken the reins at the historic label. “We are committed to discovering, developing and nurturing R&B/Soul superstars here at Motown and in Ne-Yo we have both a global superstar and arguably one of the best songwriters in music. His presence on the executive team only strengthens our commitment to the very best in R&B.”
“I’m a combination of excited, honored and terrified all at once!” said Ne-Yo. “Excited about a new beginning here at Motown, honored that I’ve been given such a prestigious title and trusted with such responsibility, TERRIFIED because I know that playing this role, in the fashion of one of my idols and career role models Mr. Smokey Robinson, these are big shoes to fill…..
but trust, I can handle it.”
Ne-Yo’s most recent album, 2010’s Libra Scale (his final album for Def Jam) was the follow-up to the RIAA platinum Year Of The Gentleman (2008), his third consecutive album to enter the Soundscan chart at #1. In addition to containing a trio of RIAA platinum hit singles, “Closer,” “Miss Independent,” and “Mad,” Year Of The Gentleman generated five Grammy nominations in 2009 – with “Miss Independent” winning for Best R&B Song (songwriters award) and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Previously, Ne-Yo established himself as a core member of the Def Jam family with Because Of You (2007), which won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album, and In My Own Words (2006) – both #1 debuts on the Billboard 200 and R&B Albums charts.
At almost this time last week, rapper turned Pop sensation Nicki Minaj made the regretted announcement that she was going to have to delay the release of her second album. Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Originally set for a Valentines Day release, Minaj made headlines on Friday for announcing that she would now be releasing her sophomore effort in April, and was debuting her album’s first music video “stupid Hoe” to tide fans over.
From then on “Stupid Hoe”’s popularity skyrocketed to the highest level possible. The Hype Williams directed video set a Vevo record for accumulating 4.8 million views in just one day. For those of you reading this that need context, let us simplify it for you. That stat is incredible!
We’ve adored the creativity and skill of Miss Minaj for quite a while now, but this sample of her star power has made the entire industry do a pleasantly surprised double take. The coolest part about this amazing record, is that in world of Nicki Minaj this has become business as usual. best part is that because insiders know that she’s just getting warmed up.
2012 is starting off as a banner year for the “Super Bass” singer. In addition to record setting video views with “Stupid Hoe”, “Turnin Me On”, Nicki’s collaboration with DJ/Producer David Guetta for his Nothing But The Beat album is also currently at the top of the Itunes chart as well. If that isn’t enough to prove that she is on her way to an apex of star power, factor in that she is heavily rumored to not only appear on Modonna’s latest album, but also perform with the icon during the Super Bowl’s half time performance.
Maybe Nicki’s just pushing the album back because she’s dag-gone busy. If you’re one of the few of us that hasn’t seen the video for “Stupid Hoe”, check it out below. If that’s not enough, keep an eye out for David Guetta’s “Turnin’ Me On” music video that is set to premiere on January 31st.

Elektra recording artist Bruno Mars has added yet another accolade to his growing list of achievements by topping this year’s global IFPI chart for the best-selling digital singles of 2011. The singer/songwriter/producer takes spots No. 1 and No. 2 with consecutive singles from his 25x worldwide platinum debut album “DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS;” “Just the Way You Are” lands at No. 1 with 12.5 million copies sold and “Grenade” at No. 2 with 10.2 million. Additionally Mars’ third consecutive single “The Lazy Song” lands at No. 10 on the chart with 6.5 million copies sold, making him the first artist to have three tracks amongst the top 10 digital singles in one year. Bruno’s singles took No. 1, 2 and 10 on this year’s annual chart (which was released by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry earlier this week) and other pop heavyweights were ranked as follows: LMFAO at No. 3, Jennifer Lopez at No. 4, Adele, Lady Gaga and Pitbull all ranked at No. 5, Black Eyed Peas at No. 8 and Maroon 5 at No. 9. Additionally, Mars is celebrating his fourth No. 1 on the Billboard CHR/Top 40 Chart with his smash single “It Will Rain” from Summit Entertainment/Chop Shop/Atlantic’s recently released “THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK.” Mars first topped this chart in 2010 as a producer and featured artist on B.o.B’s “Nothin’ On You feat. Bruno Mars.” Later that year, he spent three weeks at No. 1with “Just The Way You Are,” and his second consecutive single “Grenade” spent another five weeks atop the chart in early 2011. In other recent news, Mars has scored a stunning six nominations for the upcoming 54th Annual Grammy Awards and will be featured as one of the evening’s highly anticipated performers. The annual extravaganza will be held on Sunday, February 12th, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS from 8-11:30 pm (ET/PT). The six nominations place Mars among the year’s most-nominated artists, a testament to his diverse talents as performer, songwriter, and producer. His 25x-worldwide platinum debut album, “DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS,” was nominated as “Album of the Year” and “Best Pop Vocal Album,” while the #1 smash hit, “Grenade,” was named in both the “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year” categories, as well as for “Best Pop Solo Performance.” What’s more, The Smeezingtons – that is, the production team of Mars, Philip Lawrence, and Ari Levine – are among the “Producer of the Year, Non-Classical” nominees, celebrating, among other recordings, “DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS,” along with Mars’ featured role on Bad Meets Evil’s “Lighters (Feat. Bruno Mars)” and Lil Wayne’s “Mirror (Feat. Bruno Mars).” This marks the second consecutive year that the trio has been nominated in this category.

All American Rejects “Beekeeper’s Daughter” DGC/Interscope Records
Alternative/Rock group The All-American Rejects are making a return in 2012 with a brand new album. The group, known for such radio hits as “Gives You Hell”, “Move Along”, and “Dirty Little Secret” has not released an LP since December of 2008. (When The World Comes Down) The new project titled Kids In The Street is set to be released March 27, 2012 from DGC/Interscope Records. The entire album was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Greg Wells, who is known for his work with Adele, Katy Perry, and OneRepublic, among many others
The first single for the new album “Beekeeper’s Daughter” has been released to radio after it was first leaked. It is set for release for purchase on Tuesday (1/31/12). The song contains the same mixture of pop and rock elements that have proven so successful for the band in the past. AAR’s Tyson Ritter explains how the song actually is based on a time while Ritter was living in Los Angeles after wrapping two years of touring behind the band’s 2008 album When The World Comes Down.
“Beekeeper’s Daughter’ is a story about a guy who thinks he can get away with anything and always have a girl there waiting for him,” Ritter told Thronebuzz.com “He never backs down from that opinion. At the end of it, he’s even stronger and more snide and thinks he’s invincible no matter what. He’s an assh****, but at that point in my life, I was kind of an assh****. As we were making Kids in the Street, I went from that to being a completely humbled guy who’s looking at his reflection saying, ‘Wow, what have I done?’ It may make me not seem very likeable, but it was important that I be truthful and really open up on this album about what I’ve been through.’”
To go along with the new album, Kids In The Street, as well as the new single, The All-American Rejects have also recently released a list of brand new tour dates. The dates and venues are listed on the bands website at http://www.allamericanrejects.com/events/
“I Won’t Give Up,” the heartfelt new single from Atlantic recording artist Jason Mraz, is quickly proving the first undeniable pop smash of the New Year. One week from its release, the song debuted in the #1 slot on Billboard’s “Digital Songs” chart, with sales surpassing 225,000. At iTunes alone, “I Won’t Give Up” has topped the retailer’s “Top Songs” and “Top Pop Songs” charts for the past week. Released one week ago with little fanfare, no radio play or major broadcast visibility, reaction to the song has been nothing short of phenomenal.
Debuted quietly on Mraz’s site on January 3 via a lyric video, “I Won’t Give Up” spread lightning-fast online, gathering love and praise from an array of famous names, including Ellen DeGeneres, Colbie Callait, Rob Thomas, Perez Hilton, and Lady Antebellum, all of whom have taken to their Twitter feeds to tweet about the track. The lyric video has since surpassed 2.5 million individual views at Mraz’s official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdN5GyTl8K0.
The song is the first #1 debut on Billboard’s “Digital Songs” chart since last August’s “She Will” by Lil’ Wayne featuring Drake. Outside of the U.S., “I Won’t Give Up” has also topped digital retailer charts around the world.
“I Won’t Give Up” heralds the GRAMMY® Award-winning tunesmith’s eagerly awaited new album, slated for release on May 8th. The track will be delivered to multi-format radio outlets nationwide in late January, and Mraz will perform the song live on the February 16th installment of “Today.”
Fans will get a chance to watch Mraz perform the song via live stream of a special acoustic performance from the BING Bar in Park City, Utah on January 20th at 1 PM Mountain time, sponsored by ASUS and Intel. The acoustic set will be streamed live through his Facebook page, www.facebook.com/jasonmraz. Jason’s performance is the culmination of his six month journey with ASUS and Intel as part of their In Search of Incredible campaign. More information on the search, including a special global web series with Jason shot in the MojaveDesert, London, and Morocco, can be found at www.insearchofincredible.com.
One of the modern era’s most gifted pop troubadours, Jason Mraz’s extraordinary musical journey has taken him from coffee houses to stadiums all over the world, with two GRAMMY® Awards and six nominations already to his credit. His 2008 third album, “WE SING. WE DANCE. WE STEAL THINGS.” was an indelible global blockbuster, earning gold, platinum and multi-platinum certifications in 21 countries around the world. The album’s lead single, “I’m Yours” was ASCAP’s 2010 “Song of the Year” and also holds the record for being the longest-running song in the history of the Billboard “Hot 100” chart. A prolific songwriter, Mraz has been feted with a number of honors, including the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s esteemed “Hal David Starlight Award,” presented to gifted songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs.
Mraz spent much of 2011 road-testing the songs from his as-yet-untitled new album touring alongside his longtime friend, percussionist Noel “Toca” Rivera. The worldwide trek – which included performances in North America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia – saw Mraz celebrating music’s lasting power to inspire change and help others through global citizenship. Among the journey’s many highlights were multiple sold out shows at such iconic venues as Australia’s Sydney Opera House, New York City’s Carnegie Hall, and Spreckels Theatre in Mraz’s adopted hometown of San Diego.
Long known for his many philanthropic activities, Mraz recently announced the establishment of the Jason Mraz Foundation, devoted to supporting a number of charities for which he has been a dedicated and impassioned advocate. Mraz created the Foundation – http://jasonmraz.com/foundation/ – to sustain organizations aligned with his four pillars of service: human equality, environment preservation, arts and education, and recovery and assistance.
Pop singer Mike Posner has been gearing up to release his sophomore album Sky High since he first released its smash first single “Looks Like Sex” back in December. Although Sky High is set for a February release, little other details have been made available about what else to expect from the rest of the album. What we do know is that he released a music video with a wardrobe that looks like it was inspired by Tron and a little bit of Justin Timberlake’s “My Love” for “Looks Like Sex.” The lights combined with the women have made “She Looks Like Sex” look fantastic. However, away from the fantastic video, little else has been said about his new album \
Perhaps that is why he decided to release his phenomenal acoustic cover of Rick Ross’s “Stay Schemin,”to tide fans over while he works to finish the album. He recorded the song while between things recording in a studio in Miami with his friend “Black Bear” providing back up vocals and guitar. Posner did provide a slight hint about who may be producing on the album when he dropped the name Pharrell while talking to Allhiphop.com.
“I was in Miami the last two weeks working with Pharrell, and after I would finish recording, I would kick it with Rozay at his crib. Rick [Ross], French [Montana], and I went to the club one night in Miami, and I saw the reaction people had to “Stay Schemin”, even though it had only been out for a day. That made me fall in love with the song, and I knew Blackbear and I could put a fresh spin on it.”
“Shout outs to Pharrell for letting me borrow his keyboard in the making of,” he continued, while laughing.
We will keep you posted on Posner’s Sky High album details as they become availible . For now, enjoy the videos below for “She Looks Like Sex”, the Rick Ross cover, and also a cool new video off his mixtape, The Layover, “A Perfect Mess.”
Clizbeats would like to give a huge shout out to song writer/producer extraordinaire, Christopher “Trickey” Stewart. Various music sources reported last week that the Grammy Award-winner has been named President of A&R for Epic Records. In this newly created position, he will be responsible for identifying, developing and nurturing new talent for the label in conjunction with the A&R team. Stewart is based in Los Angeles and Atlanta and will report directly to Chairman/CEO Antonio”L.A. Reid.
Reid commented, “Tricky has been an extremely talented and consistent hit maker for many years. I have enormous respect for him and couldn’t imagine building Epic’s roster of talent without him.”
Stewart said, “My goal has always been to help create music with artists who will be doing this until the day they die. L.A. Reid has played an important role in key moments in my career and has been a mentor to me, so I know we share in the same vision. Being in partnership with Epic Records is an amazing vehicle for me to help artists find their voice, be creative and get great music out to the world.”
As a song writer and producer Stewart has enjoyed a career spanning over 16 years in the business that also kicked off thanks to the help of “LA” Reid as well. Stewart met Reid after producing on the 1994 RCA Records album, Treat U Right by Black Girl. Reid eventually offered him a deal to move his production company to Atlanta. In 1995, with the support of Reid, in partnership with his brother Laney Stewart, his brother Mark Stewart, and his sister-in-law Judi Stewart, Tricky established RedZone Entertainment and Triangle Sound studios in West Buckhead, Atlanta, GA.
His first single’s appearance on the charts was producing the Hip Hop single, “Who Dat” by Luke/Priority Records rapper, JT Money featuring Sole in 1999. That soon lead to his first Pop/Rhythmic crossover hit, “Case of The Ex” by R&B singer, Mya in 2000. It would not be long until Tricky hit the big time of the big time, when he co-wrote what could be considered the breakthrough record of his career, “Me Against The Music”, by Britney Spears featuring Madonna in 2003. “Me Against The Music” not only was a plus for Stewart for working with Britney, it was also the first single released that was co-written by who would become Stewart’s long time production partner, Terius Nash. Nash and Stewart would collaborate from then on with an ‘A’ list of artists and help shape Nash as a recording artist himself in 2007 for Def Jam Records (Also ran by Antonio “LA” Reid at the time) under the name, “The-Dream.”
Stewart’s work with The-Dream on his material did not slow down their opportunity to produce for other blockbuster artists. In early 2007 Stewart and The-Dream had another breakthrough, producing and writing what many consider to be the definitive single of Rihanna’s career, “Umbrella” featuring Jay-Z. From that point on Stewart and The-Dream were the hottest production duo out, they had branded their own sound on worldwide pop culture. This gave them the opportunity to produce high profile back to back hits for Mary J. Blige, J. Holiday, Mariah Carey, Jesse McCartney, and Usher. Just as you would think the hits would stall out towards the end of the first decade of the 2000’s, Stewart finished strong, producing career making hits for Justin Bieber and Beyonce Knowles. There is absolutely no doubt why “LA” Reid wants Stewart on his team, ever since being given the opportunity, the man has continued to reinvent his sound, and have his finger on the pulse of Pop and R&B music. The coolest fact about all this is, these are all officially released hit singles on his resume, and don’t even show the countless contributions to artist’s album cuts through the years. The man knows music of all types well, he is sure to give Reid’s new Epic Records a huge boost! As mentioned in the beginning Stewart does deserve a big congratulations for scoring this cool gig, but really so does “LA” Reid for being able to get him on his team!
