Nicki Minaj is in a bit of trouble over her song “Starships”. According to TMZ, Ms Minaj is being sued over a copyright infringement claim made by EDM star Clive Tanaka. Tanaka filed a federal suit against Minaj and the song’s 3 other writers, claiming that they have infringed upon his 2011 hit, “Neu Chicago” to make the music for “Starships.” “Starships'” credited writers are Onika Maraj, Nadir Khayat, Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub, Wayne Hector, and Bilal Hajj. As you can see from looking at You Tube Tanaka’s “Neu Chicago” was posted on October 18th 2010 and Minaj’s “Starships” wasn’t released until March 3rd 2012.
There is no way for us to speak on if the song was stolen, or if it’s just a huge coincidence. What is very clear is that the tracks have many similarities. We’ve posted them both below. Listen to them both and decide for yourself. What do you think? PS: Please forgive us for not knowing Clive Tanaka’s record label.
