It is almost time for the return of this generation’s premiere, and highly hyped music competition show, American Idol. On it we’ll all finally get to see the often discussed, and controversial 2013 judges panel of Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, and the returning “dawg”, Randy Jackson. Are you curious to see who might take on the “Simon Cowell”, brutal honesty role that helped make the show a favorite with fans in its start ? Well, to little surprise to us, many people are expecting that to be YMCMB’s Nicki. Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe wanted to emphasize, that although she was encouraged to take the job by her rapping Label head Lil Wayne, the show isn’t intending to take a Hip Hop slant.
Lythgoe told USA Today, “I do not believe hip-hop will become a genre on American Idol.” With that said, he does however hope that her influence will inspire “a lot of good street kids”. Whether the kids be in the streets, the burbs, or directly at the judges tabel, something is defiantly inspired for season 12 of the show.
The only thing we can guess it to be right without seeing the show for ourselves yet, is an over all wild streak. Intentional or not many people think that streak began thanks in part to the now widely recognized clips of Minaj and Carey having it out during an audition Charlotte, North Carolina where the two didn’t play nice together for whatever speculated reason. Even if done just for publicity, it seems to have lit a fuse invigorating the new panel in a relatively “spicy” way.
To see this for yourself, all you need to do is take note of a recent interview that the two diva recently gave to UK publication, The Sun. In the interview the two make light of the feud, and Minaj goes on to compare the media attention to the silliness of her rumored sex tape. Now that the two stars have reportedly, “made up”, Carey was quoted as simply saying, “Time heals all wounds”, Minaj went on to say in response to Carey’s remarks, “I put on my sex tape… we watched my tape. . . We’re professionals.”
Wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall in that scenario? The newly “spiced Up” American Idol season 12 begins tomorrow on Fox. Will you be watching?
