New Dave Matthews Band Album and Single May 4, 2009
As many hardcore Dave Matthews Band fans already know, the band is gearing up to release their seventh studio album via RCA Records in June! The album,Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King began being worked on at Studio Litho in Seatle Washington in February 2008, and completed at Piety Street Studio in New Orleans, Louisiana.
This is the last album featuring DMB’s saxophone player, Leroi Moore, who died in an ATV accident that occured on June 30th, 2008 on his farm in Charlottesville, Virginia. In an April 2009 interview with MTV Dave Matthews and Carter Beauford explained the origins behind the title and how it relates back to Moore.
Beauford described the word “GrooGrux” as a nickname for Leroi and hmself. “Big Whiskey” stems from a chance encounter with a local New Orleans drunk during a photo shoot for the new album. It was during that promotional photo shoot for their album that they encountered a local man playing harmonica who was asking tourists for money so he could buy “a big whiskey.” Matthews handed the man a $20 bill who then walked off with excitement.. After the trumpet player Rashawn Ross then suggested the phrase for the title of the album. Matthews liked because people wouldn’t have to call the album by the more difficult to say “GrooGrux”
