(Feb. 28, 2012 – New York, NY) High-octane, guitar-driven band MONA will follow up the February 28th release of MONA, their self-titled debut album on Mercury Records, with a performance of their newest single “Lean Into the Fall” tonight on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and on TBS’s Conan March 1st. Those dates come during their first headlining North American tour since joining the label. After a short break, MONA will be back out on the road, for three weeks of U.S. dates – selling out quickly! – with fellow Mercury Records group Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
MONA’s headlining tour opens February 16th at Masquerade in Atlanta, and wraps up with a homecoming gig at the Basement in Nashville on March 2nd. On March 28th, MONA joins Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds at the Warner Theater in Washington, DC, kicking off three weeks of shows (Please see complete itineraries below.)
“Lean Into the Fall,” now climbing the Alternative charts, is the follow up to MONA’s previous U.S. single “Listen To Your Love,” which is posted at the band’s website, www.monatheband.com <http://www.monatheband.com/> (along with videos of “Lean Into the Fall” and other tracks). MONA’s 12-song album was produced by the band’s Nick Brown and mixed by Rich Costey (credits: Muse, Foo Fighters, Interpol), and includes “Shooting the Moon” which will be the iTunes Single Of the Week starting February 28th.
2011 was a busy year for MONA, including their showcase at the SXSW Music Conference in Austin, Texas, clips of which were shown on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly. Check out those performances at: http://theaudioperv.com/2011/03/26/mona-listen-to-your-love-325-last-call/ and http://theaudioperv.com/2011/04/30/mona-trouble-on-the-way-lean-into-the-fall-429-last-call/. MONA went on to the summer festival schedule, including Summer Sonic in Japan, and UK heavyweight destinations Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds. They wrapped up the year on tour with Airborne Toxic Event through the end of November.
MONA – Nick Brown (lead vocals, guitar, chief songwriter), Jordan Young (guitar), Zach Lindsey (bass), and Vince Gard (drums) – won the MTV VMA as Brand New For 2011, and then made quite an impression on UK rock audiences when they traveled there in the spring to support the UK release of their debut single, “Listen To Your Love.” They were nominated on the BBC’s influential Sound Of 2011 poll, and returned to the U.S. to road-test new material from the album, earning early praise from the New York Times, Spin and Rolling Stone, among others.
MONA’s roots are in midwestern Dayton, Ohio, where Nick and Vince got their first taste of the stage at a Pentecostal church that banned secular music. Relocating to Nashville, they hooked up with Kentucky natives Zach and Jordan, and soon began writing and recording in the basement of their Nashville home. The band’s style is a nod to Elvis Presley’s swagger, Johnny Cash’s grit, and James Dean’s cool, but it’s impossible to deny their unbridled talent and ability to write stadium bound rock songs. “At the end of the day, we’re just four dudes making some noise in a garage and just having fun.”
