NBC Philadelphia has reported that rapper Meek Mill may have prison time next year. Judge Genece Brinkley has ruled that Mill violated the terms of his probation, which includes violating his travel restrictions. Brinkley also ruled that he isn’t allowed to work or perform until after his sentencing hearing on February 5th. Only exceptions made would be community service.
Mill recognizes that his “whole life is on the line,” and that he has been spending time with his family and girlfriend Nicki Minaj, who testified on Mill’s behalf. Minaj suggests that she’s been a good influence on him while the two stars have been living together.
“[The parole officer’s] not going to be the one sleeping alone if he goes to jail. I am,” Minaj told the judge. “He’s not perfect, but I can’t believe how much he’s changed.”
Minaj said she’d also help Mill fulfill his required community service. “He doesn’t have a lot of structure. He can be irresponsible,” she said. “Since I’ve come into his life, I think I’ve been working on that a little bit… He’s just getting accustomed to being an adult.”
In 2008 he was arrested for drug and gun charges, which put him behind bars for 18 months before being put on five years of probation. Mill was sentenced to six months in jail for violating that probation by booking out of town shows without permission, and not giving his probation officer a working phone number. Judge Brinkly, who also dealt with these matters said, “he’s thumbing his nose at me and I haven’t been convinced otherwise.”
