While she is welcomed as one of the new judges on the revamped 10th season of American Idol, Jennifer Lopz is setting up for a comeback in the music business in a big way. After many delays, Lopez is finally getting ready to release her latest album, Love?. Being in production since 2008, Love? will be Lopez’s debut project for Antonio “LA” Reid’s Island Def Jam Music Group under Island Records, after being pushed back several times. Lopez originally intended for the album to be released in January of 2010 by her former long time label, Epic Records. Epic even released the album’s first single, “Louboutins” in December 2009, with the planned release of the album the next year.
Love? was then later delayed to April of 2010, to go along with the release of Lopez’ latest film, The Back Up Plan. However, after songs were leaked and momentum for the project died way before April, it was announced on February 22nd 2010 that Jennifer Lopez and Sony Music’s Epic Records would ne parting ways. Lopez’s manager Beenny Medina issued the following statement in a press release.
“Jennifer had a wonderful relationship with the Sony Music Group, and they have shared many successes together, but the time was right to make a change that best serves the direction of her career as an actress and recording artist, she is grateful and appreciative to everyone at Sony for all that they accomplished together”
After Lopez’s departure from Sony’s Epic Records’ the future of Love? and its pending release was left in question. By the summer however it was being announcd that Lopez would be signing with Universal Music Group’s Island Def Jam Music Group. This would provide a new home for Lopez’s music and release Love? .
Love? reunites J Lo with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, the man behind her 1999 breakout debut hit single, “If You Had My Love.” Along with Jerkins Island Def Jam also had Lopez return to the studio with two of the album’s original main contributors, Christopher “Trickey” Stewart & The-Dream to add new material to the project. Also adding to Island’s version with Trickey & The-Dream and Darkchild, the album will feature work from, D’Mile, The Neptunes, Danja and many others.
The first official single released from Love? under the new Island deal will be “On The Floor” featuring Pitbull. It is a hot dance track produced by RedOne, and it has been on the buzz since talk of Jennifer becoming a part of the new American Idol family. After many setbacks, Jennifer Lopez’s Love? is due with a release date for summer of 2011. By becoming one of the most talked about new Judges on Idol and also recieving a new support system over at Island Def Jam, J Lo may have what it takes in a perfect storm strong enough to give her success, even after so much industry politics. Good Luck J Lo!
