Megan Nicole “Summer Forever” Bad Boy/Interscope Records

It is that time of year again! You know, that time when the end of the hot summer season is in sight. Kids are now doing their back to school shopping, and college students are trying to squeeze in as much time at their beach houses that their vacation will allow. As the summer of 2013 comes to an end, we all look back at the good times and try to relive the memories we have crated while having fun in the sun. Like it does every year, music has played a big part of the sounds of these memories this season. When you think of music from this summer some smash hits have to come to mind. These may include favorites like “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus, or Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”. (Especially after Stephen Colbet’s star studded, “Get Lucky”.dance video)However before the summer ends, we encourage you to add one more song to that list. The song is the appropriately titled “Summer Forever”! It is an up beat bubbly Pop track by 19 year old singer, Megan Nicole.

For those of you that don’t know Megan is the latest online sensation to jump into the record industry. It all began in December of 2009, when the Houston Texas high school student started posting different cover songs on YouTube. The first of these was a cover of Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” featuring her singing and playing acoustic guitar.  Since then, her cover of Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song” has attracted more than 31 million views. More videos soon followed like Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” (7 million-plus,) Maroon 5’s “Payphone” (5 million-plus,) One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful”( 4 million-plus) and many more.  As Megan’s online presence continued to grow with millions of viewers, one of those viewers happened to be Harve Pierre, the President of Bad Boy Records. Harve continued to keep an eye on Megan as she grew and developed as an independent cover act. But his interest in her grew significantly, when she took an artistic leap by releasing her debut original song “B-e-a-utiful”in 2011. The leap proved to be successful when the song’s Kurt Schneider directed video scored more than 17 million views from her fans. Since it is remarkable for an artist known for covers to get such a massive response from an original composition, Harve wasted no time in contacting Megan, and arranging a meeting with Bad Boy founder, Sean “Diddy” Combs to meet her. After being impressed by Megan, Diddy and Pierre quickly roped in Jimmy Iovine from Bad Boy’s distribution partner, Interscope Records. As a result, Megan Nicole officially became a part of the Bad Boy/Interscope Records roster only a little over a year after posting the video for “B-e-a-utiful.”

Now as mentioned previously, Megan is turning a lot of heads with her Bad Boy debut single and video for the song “Summer Forever.” It is a fun anthem that really shows her personality and potential as Pop star in the making. She is credited as a co-writer on the song, along side acclaimed writers Morgan Taylor Reid and Mika Guillory. Both Reid and Guillory are probably best known for recently working closely with the Backstreet Boys on multiple songs for their 2013 album. In A World Like This. The video for “Summer Forever” debuted in May, and has since been seen over 3 million times. It was recently added to rotation on MTV’s 24 music video channel, MTV Hits.
