Indie Artist Spotlight: Natalise + The Sunset Run

Often referred to as a cross between Colbie Caillat, Christina Perri, and Coldplay, Natalise + the Sunset Run exhibits, in signature fashion, heartfelt emotion over catchy melodies and poignant lyrics in its forthcoming EP Constellations.

Natalise, having played piano since she was just three years old, plays keys on every track and delivers her own kind of soulful vocal that hits you where it hurts, in the best way possible. From heartbreak to growing up to gratefulness, Natalise + the Sunset Run provides the soundtrack to your life’s moments, both big and small.

But this ability for Natalise to find the truth in life’s moments has been a journey. Along with piano at three, Natalise started dance at seven, singing in the church choir at eight, and then training at the renowned San Francisco Conservatory of Music at the age of 11, where she classically trained as a lyrical opera singer. Natalise, however, soon found greatest solace and inspiration in writing her own songs on the piano.

“I remember when I was 15, I started waking up at 3am with ideas. And for the life of me, I couldn’t go back to sleep until I sat at the piano playing out the ideas in my head. And then words would flow out. It was like an active meditation. That’s when I knew I couldn’t escape the pull and the songwriting really started taking over.”

While attending Stanford University (from which she graduated in three years at the age of 19 with high honors) she simultaneously recorded and released an album on her own independent label which became a hit on San Francisco radio.

Since then, Natalise has performed at over 150 venues all over the world, including the famed Viper Room, the House of Blues, and The Hotel Cafe, as well as colleges like Columbia, Stanford, and UCLA and has sang the national anthem for her hometown team the Golden State Warriors. Her songs have been featured on television shows on such networks as MTV, VH1, Oxygen, and the CW.

While Natalise + the Sunset Run’s last EP Glimpses of the Sun was about gratefulness and the bittersweet, Natalise says that Constellations is about small moments of joy. She cites Coldplay, Sigur Ros, and One Republic as influences, with whom she shares a love for the piano, an appreciation of atmosphere, and a passion for the heartfelt.(Preview “Constellations” above!

Natalise has a soft spot for anyone who loves physics, dogs, and an authentic brew of tea. She recently received her MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business with the hope of making a positive impact on social issues through enterprise.
