#ICYMI: Adam Levine Leads “The Voice” In Christina Grimmie Tribute

In case you missed it, Adam Levine and the team from The Voice celebrated late YouTube star and season six stand out Christina Grimmie Tuesday.  Grimmie, who was tragically shot by a deranged fan while signing autographs in June of last year, was honored by NBC, who  gave The Grimmie family a platform to highlight the loss her talent and spirit, and announce the family’s new foundation named in her  honor.  

With Grimmie’s family looking on from the the audience, Levine spoke the singer, saying,

“I miss her, it’s unfair that she’s not here and we’re gonna sing her a little song tonight, and I’m going to be singing every word to her in her honor.”

He was joined current contestants Jesse Larson, Lilli Passero and Mark Isaiah to perform a moving live rendition of the Beatles classic, “Hey Jude” in memory of Christina.   This touching tribute comes on the heels of Republic Records releasing her posthumous EP, Side B this past Friday.  The 4 new track  first began getting critical acclaim when the first single  “Invisible” was released back in February. Its anime-inspired official music video and a lyric video collectively garnered over 1 million YouTube views, while the airy and empowering anthem quickly surpassed 300K Spotify streams. Pop Crush praised the animated visual as “Powerful,” and Rolling Stone, Billboard, Idolator, and more have featured the breathtaking song.

The EP showcases the undeniable power in Christina’s voice. Dubbed the “Queen of YouTube” at just 17-years-old by Ellen DeGeneres, she touched the lives of millions with countless videos. Watching the songstress perform music in her childhood bedroom, listeners felt an intimate connection to Christina as if they grew up with her. As her music spread around the world, countless fans shared stories of how those songs helped them through their darkest moments—from illness to depression—and invigorated them to achieve their dreams against all odds. In the aftermath of her tragic passing, many supporters donated time, resources, and money to keep the artist’s vision alive.
