Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Seeks Treatment After On Stage Melt Down At IHeart Radio Music Festival
Friday’s events at the Las Vegas based Iheart Radio Music Festival unfortunately gave way to Sunday’s bigger announcement that Green Day’s lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong would be entering treatment for substance abuse. Armstrong’s reps confirmed the need for treatment after the singer had an on stage meltdown during the end of Green Day’s performance at the all-star concert. Armstrong was upset, feeling that he and his band were wrongfully being cut short, and being disrespected, when he was given a 1 minute wrap up warning during the show.
“One minute left, one minute (expletive) left. You’re gonna give me (expletive) one minute? … I’m not (expletive) Justin Bieber, you (expletives)!” he yelled.
Armstrong then went on to smash his guitar in a fit. Green Day went on to apologize “to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival” in a statement they released to the associated press. They went on to say that Iheartradio’s host Clear Channel did not cut their set short. Justin Bieber was not performing at the festival the same night of Armstrong’s outburst.
Armstrong was hospitalized while on tour in Bologna, Italy, for an undisclosed illness, in September. Despite that illness, he did go on to play at a series of high profile performances including the recently past MTV Video Music Awards, and Good Morning America. It is unclear what Armstrong is receiving treatment for. He was arrested in 2003 for a DUI. Armstrong has previously admitted a past taking various drugs. Fans can look forward to Armstrong’s coaching contribution to team Christina on this season of NBC’s Music competition, The Voice.
We would like to wish Billie good health and prosperity.
