A Deeper Look Back At The 2016 Billboard Music Awards

Last night was a big deal for the chart toppers of the music world as ABC brought you the 2016 Billboard Music Awards hosted by Ciara and Ludacris. It was a big night for The Weeknd, who walked away with 8 awards out of his 19 nominations. He made headlines after winning his first award of the night when he dedicated his Top 100 Artist award to Prince. Prince famously made his last TV appearance before his death also on ABC, on November of 2015, when he presented the American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B album to The Weeknd for his breakthrough album, Beauty Behind The Madness. It was that album that allowed The Weeknd to sweep last night’s award show thanks to hits like, “I Can’t Feel My Face,” “The Hills,” “In The Night”, and “Earned It” also from Fifty Shades Of Grey.

Justin Bieber and Adele were also big winners of the night, each nabbing more than one award, including Adele winning the big award of the night of Top Artist. Even though she could not be there due to her tour commitments, her presence certainly was felt. Along with sending some very gracious thank yous, she also gave the ABC viewers the gift of premiering the new video for her new single “Send My Love (To Your New Lover).” Thatis the second video from her blockbuster album, 25 following her massive hit “Hello.”

Like many award shows these days however, the broadcast was packed with more live performances than awards. With that said, you will find a complete list of the night’s nominees and winners that were and were not seen on TV below.
But As you can probably imagine, the night was full of some great TV moments, and exclusive premieres. The all-star line up on the stage included Britney Spears, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Pink, DNCE, Blake Shelton with Gwen Stefani , Celine Dion, Madonna, and more! Among these was also the much talked about tribute to Prince with special guest Stevie Wonder. As can be expected with last night’s show and many other award shows on network TV, many of these performances are hard to find online without having them taken down due to a copyright claim shortly after they are found. Therefore as we work on bringing you stories related to the music heard on last night’s show, check out the award show’s recaps and interviews from Billboard and others.
