Chicago rapper, Common has has just released a music video for his song “Sweet.” The track off of his ninth studio album The Dreamer/The Believer set to be released next month. For those of us who are connoisseurs of rap music, Common is undoubtedly one of the leading socially conscious voices in the industry today. However, as you may recall, earlier this year the conservative Fox News Channel created a firestorm around Common’s appearance at a White House poetry event. While the lyrics to “Sweet” does little to dismiss the accusations made by Fox News of Common being a “gangsta” rap artist, the manner in which the video was released does. Common released the video on the night of Monday November 14thth on UStream. In order to see the video, which was filmed in Haiti, it required a donation of $1 to the J/P Haitian Relief Organization.
In addition to Common working on the promotion for his new albums release, he also recently addressed the rumors of a collaboration album with fellow rapper Nas in an interview with Hard Knock TV. “At some point, we will do that. We’d talked about it and we had a good idea to call it Nas .Com. That was actually going to be a mixtape at one point, but we decided that we should make it an album. And we will. Nas is working on his album right now and my album is coming.”
While we wait and see whether or not the Common and Nas Collaboration actually can come to fruition, be sure to check out Common’s new Video for “Sweet” and also be sure to go out and get his much anticipated album, The Dreamer/The Believer, when it is released December 20th.
