Chris Darthtry Uses The Power Of “The Fourth” For Promotion In Hilarious Star Wars Video!

By Andrew McMahon
In celebration of national Star Wars day, college humor.com released a short involving an array of different artists auditioning for the famous star wars Cantina Band. The short combines the artists names with those of the franchises most famous and beloved characters, resulting in some punny outcomes.
From RG-Watts dressed as R2-D2, to Jor-Din Sparks pleading that the fan’s votes (american idol style) were her only hope, the combinations were a great mix of nostalgia and comedy. The best integration had to be the blending of Darth Maul and Chris Daughtry, creating Chris Darthtry.
in addition to being extremely entertaining, Dautry’s time spent in “a galaxy far far away” has worked out to be some great album exposure. The former American Idol star is currently promoting his 4th album, Baptized. We at Clizbeats have been fans of the album since initially promoting it’s leadoff single “Waiting for Superman” in September of last year. It is a catchy song that went on to break into Billboard’s top 40 Mainstream. As of April RCA has been working to build on that by promoting Daughtry’s “Superman” follow up single, “Battleships.” It has a sound that is as epic as the Sith Lord he portrays.
Too bad the College Humor parody wasn’t made just a bit earlier. Daughtry’s rendition of Maul was great, and shows off his ability as a performer in a way that few have probably seen before. That said, it seems that it won’t land him a starring role in the upcoming J.J Abrams directed Star Wars sequels. The cast list was announced last week, and while it highlights combining a lot of fresh young faces with stand outs from the original saga, his name wasn’t on it.
Newcommers that did make the cut, include John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They will join franchise favorites, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film that is due for release in December of 2015. That’s still plenty of time for Daughtry to contribute to a soundtrack. (“Waiting For Superman” proves he can write a great theme song. Just sayin’.)
As a Star Wars geek and a J.J Abrams fan, I for one couldn’t be more excited about everything going on, (College Humor skit included.) Clizbeats wishes Dautry continued success with his promotion of Baptized May the 4th be with you sir, but be wary, for today is the revenge of the si(x)th. Enjoy the features below!
