The music world is in mourning today upon learning about the death of Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell. Following the initial shock, which rippled through the Thursday morning’s entertainment news cycle, details are now explaining Cornell’s death as an apparent suicide. Sources for TMZ state that Chris’ wife Vicky Cornell insists that he did not show signs of depression or suicidal thoughts when she last spoke to him during the band’s soundcheck for last night’s show at Detroit’s Fox Theater. According to TMZ, Vicky grew concerned when she could not reach him Thursday morning, and asked for someone to call hotel security. That is when his body was discovered.
CNN is now reporting that Soundgarden’s final song last night was a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “In My TIme Of Dying, which means Chris Cornell’s genre defining vocals sang these lyrics as part of his final performance
“In my time of dying, I want nobody to mourn
All I want for you to do is take my body home”
Vicky Cornell made a point to tell People Thursday morning, Chris was devoted to his kids, ages 16, 12 and 11. She didn’t believe he would take his life. Chris Cornell was 52 years old. Rest In Peace Chris. Thank you for the music.
