Parachute & Daryl Hall Live From Daryl’s House!

Parachute & Darryl Hall

Marking the 20th episode of his critically acclaimed online series Live From Daryl’s House, Daryl Hall invited Mercury Records rockers (and longtime Daryl Hall and John Oates fans) Parachute to join him, in a brand-new installment which debuts June 15 at www.livefromdarylshouse.com, where it can be seen along with archived footage of past episodes.

The Charlottesville, VA-based band recently climbed to #1 on the iTunes album charts with their debut, Losing Sleep, and hit single, “She Is Love,” one of seven songs the five-piece band performed with Daryl Hall for the show. “She Is Love” was also featured in the national television advertising campaign for Nivea Body’s Smooth Sensations, while the group has had its music spotlighted on such shows as 90210 and One Tree Hill, with a recent performance on the CBS Early Show.

Will Anderson, the group’s vocalist/guitarist and piano player, was thrilled by the experience. “Getting to do Live From Daryl’s House was amazing,” he enthused. “We had an absolute blast singing some of the Daryl Hall and John Oates songs I grew up listening to and hope we’ll get to jam with Daryl and the guys again soon!”

Parachute (www.weareparachute.com), which also includes saxophone player/keyboardist Kit French, bassist Alex Hargrave, drummer Johnny Stubblefield and lead guitarist Nate McFarland, performed four of their own songs with Daryl, including, in addition to “She Is Love,” “Under Control,” “All That I Am” and “She,” two Daryl Hall and John Oates classics, “It’s a Laugh” and “Say It Isn’t So,” as well as a rousing cover of Junior Walker’s “Shotgun.”

Past episodes of Live from Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like The Doors, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, Finger Eleven’s James Black and Rick Jackett and the Bacon Brothers, along with newcomers such as Philly soul singer Mutlu, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo, MySpace pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Wind-up Records’ Chicago rockers Company of Thieves, Bay Area singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson and Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek of The Doors.

Live from Daryl’s House started with Daryl’s “light-bulb moment” idea of “playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet,” and the show has subsequently been praised by such varied media outlets as Rolling Stone, Spin, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo and the influential Lefsetz Letter.

Taylor Swift Gets “Love Drunk”

September 23, 2009
Love Drunk

Love Drunk

Fresh off the off the Kanye West MTV mishap, things keep looking better for Taylor Swift and all those around her. Her current single “You Belong With Me” is currently at the top of the Pop Chats and getting more and more radio play by the day. She is possibly the only Country artist to make an impact on the Pop and Rhythmic Charts since LeAnn Rimes. This week also gives Taylor’s label, Universal Republic a huge achievement as they hold two #1 hits on two different charts. (Taylor Swift “You Belong With Me” at Pop via Big Machine/Universal Republic, and “Down” by Jay Sean Featuring Lil’ Wayne at Rhythmic , Via Jayded/Cash Money/Universal Republic)

Also while Pop/Rock group, Boys Like Girls recently released their second single off their album, Love Drunk. Even though their single, “She’s Got A Boyfriend Now” was released officially on September 15th, their album cut duet with Taylor Swift, “Two Is Better Than One” has been gaining attention fast! Don’t be surprised to hear more of that song soon! Check out the new Boys Like Girls Music here!

New Mariah….Old Foreigner

September 17, 2009
Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is finally releasing the second single from her latest album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Yes, her “Obsessed” diss to Eminem has finally began to run its course. She is getting back to doing what she does best, singing classic Pop ballads in a way that only she can! For her new song she turns to something we all already know. She took a crack at covering the famous Pop song, “I Want To Know What Love Is” originally by Foreigner! This marks aproximatley the 8th time that the 1984 Pop song was covered and  the third or forth to also be released as a single to appear on the charts. (sorry because of how many times it was covered that stat is very difficult to keep track of)

The original Foreigner version was released as a single from the band’s concept album, Agent Provocateur. The sales for that album were relativley lower than other albums considering “I Want To Know What Love Is” is the band’s biggest single of all time. It still lists as one of the top 5 most played recurrents on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks Chart and is the band’s only US #1 hit.

Another notable cover single version of the song is a more stripped down version by Tina Arena who released it as a single in 1997 as part of her 1998 album, In Deep. This version is the most comparable to Mariah’s because of the female sound first being heard for the song. One cool fact is that this version was produced by Mick Jones, the song’s writer from Foreigner.

Now we get to Mariah’s current version of the song! Her version is a very intimate piano style ballad with just the amount of reverb on her breathy vocals to give the song warmth. It also has a very nice Gospel background vocal to it.  This is version is without a doubt the most R&B influenced version of all. It was produced by Christopher “Trickey” Stewart, James “Big Jim” Wright, American Idol’s, Randy Jackson and Mariah herself. After all the buzz off of such a Hip Hop influenced song like “Obsessed” It is refreshing to hear that Mariah can still sing her heart out, keep up the good work!

Leona Lewis Is “Happy”

September 17, 2009

Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis

After breaking records with her debut album “Spirit” lead by her first single “Bleeding Love,” Leona Lewis is back for the all important album number 2, Echo In hopes of history repeating, Lewis’ veteran executive producers, Clive Davis, and American Idol judge, Simon Cowell, have brought back the same team of producers for her new album.  Leading the way for Leona is the A list pairing of her and Singer/songwriter/Producer Ryan Tedder, who helped Jessie McCartny compose her $50 million selling debut single “Bleeding Love.”  The song entitled, “Happy” is the first we hear come off the album since the news that the demos for the album was stolen, and leaked digitally.  Unlike other leaked albums, Lewis’ reps got the police involved because the label’s computers were reportedly hacked resulting in the reported thieving of Lewis’s music.  This matter is still being handled. Check out the single “Happy.”  See if it was worth all the fuss.

More Than A Game

More Than A Game

By now you may be familiar with the new Lebron James documentary/film More Than A Game, but now the soundtrack is making a huge impact to help the film’s hype! The film follows Cleveland Cavaliers super star, Lebron James and four of his NBA team mates as they journey from high school basketball in Ohio to making it big in the pros!

The music to the film has become just as big of a part of the film as the movie itself. This is because it is co-produced by critically acclaimed singer/song writer/producer, Harvey Mason Jr. While co-producing the film Harvey also provides the music for the film. Harvey Mason/Streamline/Zone 4/Interscope Records is behind the soundtrack, and it features three hit singles already buzzing on the charts. The first of the three is “Stronger” by R&B sensation, Mary J. Blige. Mary’s song can be considered the film’s theme as it is used to promote the trailer. The second is a collaboration between Drake, Lil’ Wayne, Kanye West & Eminem called “Forever.” The third of the three songs making a buzz is a remix to the song “Drop It Low” by Ester Dean featuring Chris Brown.Other artists to appear on the set will also include, Omarion, Charlie Wilson, Jo Jo, Faith Evans and others! The soundtrack is executive produced by Polow Da Don and will be in stores on September 29th, 2009. Until them, check out some songs and the movie trailer!
