There was plenty of room for the barkers in sandwich boards to make their way through the crowd at Lilith Fair’s tour stop this week at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, N.J
“Last call for $10 Maroon 5 tickets!” one shouted as he crossed the amphitheater’s sparsely populated lawn, his sign advertising deep discounts for a forthcoming show; regular-price tickets cost up to $65. But the fans at Lilith — a revival of Sarah McLachlan’s woman-centric package tour from the 1990s — weren’t buying.
For the concert business it has been a summer of hard sells and empty seats. Despite sellouts for Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and some other hot acts, overall sales have been suffering, with prominent tours like the Eagles and “American Idols Live!” canceling dates.

At the age of 22, Pop singer, Kaci Bettaglia is already a veteran in the music business. After singing in competitions and booking her own gigs at the age of 12, she eventually caught the eye of Mike Curb, of Curb Records.. She made a splash with her major label debut, Nobody’s Girl in 2002. The album had two major Teen Pop singles all around the world, “Paradise” and a cover version of The Partridge Family’s “I Think I Love You” .
This gave her the opportunity to tour with the likes of the Backstreet Boys , S Club 7, O-Town and others. However due to being home schooled and touring all aroumd the world, Kaci opted to step aaway from the music business to finish school. But She did not stay away too long however. In 2009 she returned to music with the first single off her upcoming untitled comeback album also on Curb Records. The first single from that project was, “Crazy Possessive (I’ll Muck You Up)” . It became a monster hit on the Top 40/Rhythmic radio playlists. If its strong response was an indication of anything to follow from Kaci’s new more mature sound for her second project, we are in for a sexy treat.
The second single doesn’t disappoint either. Right before turning 21, Kaci and her writing team got togethe and wrote a song about what it would be like going to the bar on your 21st birthday. The end result was a song called “Body Shots” featuring Ludacris . It is a sexy twist on how to celebrate at the bar that all the ladies will love.
St. Louis Rap star, Nelly is getting ready to return to the music world once again after a long absence of two years. Some may even argue that it was even longer than that, or at least it feels like it. His previous album, Brass Knuckles was pushed back and delayed so many times, that when the album was finally released in 2008 it only made a short splash on the scene with the digital single, “Party People” featuring Fergie. The album eventually came out quietly, selling only 80,000 copies its first week and soon dropping off the chart. With all that said, this means Nelly has not been able to have a big hit since the ones on his Sweat/Suit double album of 2004.
Since then however the music industry has undergone some very dramatic changes. in today’s market place, so the question is, can Nelly do it again? Well it certainly looks like he is working to answer the question the best way possible. Nelly, the man who brought us all the songs like “Hot In Herre”, “Dilemma” and “Over And Over” is in the process of earning his spot back at the top of Hip Hop and Pop music.
He is doing this with, Nelly 5.o . his 5th studio album, (6th if you count 2004’s Sweat and Suit as separate projects) The new album was recorded all through 2009 and part of early this year. Despite originally intending to release it at the beginning of 2010, it was delayed due to the fatal shooting of Nelly’s cousin, Michael Johnson in Missouri.
As of now Nelly 5.0 is due in stores on September 21st of this year from Derrty/Universal Motown Records Group. All tragedies aside Nelly is expected to do what he does best, creating fun loving Pop/Rap that you can dance to with just a little edge to his flavor. Last year when Nelly began mentioning details for Nelly 5.0 he mentioned that confirmed tracks for the album include “1000 Stacks” featuring The Notorious B.I.G. and Diddy. as well as “Angel Eyes” featuring Akon. Production on the album will be from the likes of The Neptunes, Polow Da Don, Jermaine Dupri, J.R. Rottem, Play -N Skills, Rico Love, Dr. Luke and others. The first single has been confirmed to be “Tippin’ In The Club”, A hot dance track in only the way Nelly could do it. Take a listen to some of the songs from the album!
These days if the success of Justin Bieber, Charice and Esmee Denters have taught the music industry anything, its that YouTube is your friend. That concept is not lost on singer/song writer, Tyler Ward. Like Bieber before him, Tyler has began making a name for himself singing covers of various different musicians who are featured on Pop radio. The cool thing about Tyler is the fact that he takes the time re arrange the record and even produce some singer song writer versions of Hip Hop/R&B songs. One of the most impressive is a singer/songwrieter mix of Eminem and Rihanna’s current hit single, “Love The Way You Lie” It shows Tyler’s imagination as a producer and shows his understanding of Pop music sensability, while at the same showing respect for all styles and sounds of Pop music . Take a listen to Tyler’s version of “Love The Way You Lie” If you like what you hear, Check Tyler out on YouTube and ITunes for more covers and even his original music! As you may have seen on promo posters around your local movie theatre, Walt Disney Pictures is finally getting ready to release a sequel to their 1982 breakthrough film Tron. The new film, Tron Legacy continues the tradition of breakthrough computer animation in Disney 3-D and Imax, unlike anything ever seen on the big screen before. Disney bringing Tron back is perfect to add to the collection of countless 3-D animated films from all the major film studios. Adding to Tron Legacy’s futuristic vibe will be the soundtrack composed entirely by French, House music duo Daft Punk. Daft Punk came to fame by producing some of the music that is often considered to be essential in the House Music era of the late 1990s and early 2000s.. Two of those biggest hits include, “Around The World” from 1997 and possibly their biggest hit, “One More Time” from 2000! Multiple sources indicate that Daft Punk has recorded over 24 trackss for Tron Legacy ’s score. In addition to Daft Punk’s contribution, Journey’s music will also be featured in the film, just as it had been in the original 1982 film.
The New York Post is reporting that Simon Cowell’s departure from American Idol is not the only major change that is occuring for the show. It is reported that Idol’s executive producer, Simon Fuller is reaching out to new labels to distribute American Idol artists signed through 19 Entertainment. It appears that upon the the completion of Idol’s ninth season marked the end of 19’s contract with Sony Music Entertainment who would distribute Idol artists through its various different labels. (RCA Records, J. Records , RCA Music Group, Jive Records, Jive Label Group,, RCA/Jive Label Grroup, Arista Nashville)
While it is no secret that not every Idol winner is commerciallu successful, a new deal with Simon Fuller and a new distributing label can still be seen as a very profitable investment in a failing music industry . examples of this can be found in Carrie Underwood’s 11.5 million Sold (Arista Nashville), Kelly Clarkson’s 10 Million sold (RCA Records) and Chris Daughtry becoming a top seller behind Miley Cyrus with 3 million of his debut. (RCA Recordss) Even many of the lesser selling artists still achive traction with platinum status, both Jordin Sparks (Jive Records) and David Cook (RCA Records) both managed to sell over one million albums with their share of hit records in their own rights.
Clizbeats featured artist and Pop phenomenon, Justin Bieber is getting ready for prime time by appearing as “Jason McCann” on the season opener of CSI in September. “Jason” is a troubled teen foreced to make a tough decision about his only brother. CBS says that Justin’s role will also play out later on in the season as well. Although this is Justin’s biggest role in the acting world, he is not quite as much of a rookie as most might think. Justin first appeared as himself in the Nickelodeon TV film, School Gyrls directed by Nick Cannon. Justin also was a guest star on Keke Palmer’s TV show for Nickelodeon, True Jackson VP .
Produced by John Alagia (John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Ben Folds Five, Brett Dennen) Ry Cuming features 11 tracks that perfectly encompass Ry’s signature style – an effortless combination of tumbling falsetto melodies and rocking choruses set to a captivating musical narrative. “Always Remember Me” is set to premiere on VEVO this Thursday, July 22nd. Ry hits the road in support of his debut full-length on July 30th. The national tour includes dates with Maroon 5 and Justin Nozuka – a full tour date listing is below.
Ry Cuming is available now on iTunes (buy link) and Amazon (buy link).
“Ry Cuming makes pop with a solid does of soul….[that] manages to paint a vivid picture that could evoke California love or heartache—depending on how you look at it.”– ArtistDirect (link to interview)
“Ry’s music is a special blend of soul and pop; think Jack Johnson and Marvin Gaye giving birth to a child who was then raised by Jeff Buckley. The Aussie crooner’s tunes like “Always Remember Me” and “Some Kind Of Love” are soft, sentimental and full of longing; while tunes like “Tearing Me Apart” is angst that’s been funkdefied.” –Idolator (link to feature)

A tad bit curvier, a lot more confident and absolutely in control, Kelly Rowland announces her title as “Commander in Chief” with her third solo album and hit single “Commander”.
But don’t call this a comeback. Don’t even call it a new and improved Kelly. There was nothing wrong with her from the beginning. Let us remember, she is only one-third of what many consider to only be the most successful female groups of all time.
Ms. Kelly has seemingly just come into her own. Her new sound of heavy dance, upbeat techno, vegas-esque style, can be considered out of the ordinary if you must reminisce upon her previous solo projects. But the truth is, it actually works for her. Her voice fits the tone and she seems to actually be enjoying the music she is making.
“From here on out, I’ll be your commander” is what she salutes in a tight, patent leather body suit, leaving not much to the imagination when she, well, turns around. Where she got that booty, nobody knows. Where she got the audacity to take back control of her career after a much needed divorce between her and former manager, Matthew Knowles-we’ll just have to find out.
The journey can be taken with her when her third solo album debuts this later this year. And the trip is actually worthwhile as she proclaims her stance as a “Grown Woman”, writen by Ne-Yo and acknowledges the truth about blind love in the “Rose Colored Glasses”, produced by Dr. Luke, most famous for his work on Katy Perry’s “I kissed a girl” and Miley Cyrus “Party in the USA”.
My only concern is will everyone “get it”? As we allowed Michelle to tap into her Gospel voice, Beyonce to smoothly end her relationship with blasé R&B, and even decided with Solange that she was, in fact, amazing, we never really got the chance to give Kellya shot. While her solo debut “Simply Deep” sold over 2 million copies worldwide, something happened along the yellow bricked road of her career, as her follow up album, Ms. Kelly, kept getting shelved and eventually needed a re-release in 2008, after its 2007 debut.
However, despite a roller coaster ridden in the shadow of Beyonces’ solo success and an obvious struggle to make her mark in the industry alone, Rowland seems to have landed firmly in her skin and in her voice. Her sound does more than take you into a new direction, but into a new world.
Her latest ensemble, set to release later this year, and her first single “Commander”, forces her to step out of her comfort zone, add attitude and demand her best, and only best, to be shown. She gave us a sneak peak of her new sound with her number one hit, “When Love takes over”, a proven successful collaboration with famous French DJ, David Guetta.
Does she have a bit of work to do? Of course, but who doesn’t? I mean at least she can really sing. Half the artist nowadays couldn’t hold a note if their life depended on it. Her dancing is still a bit outdated and she sort of seems to be waddling in and out of finding her “look”. Although as she has seemed to change her image what feels like every five minutes, in reality, her new style of music is forward, futuristic and full of life…
Enough said. Buy the album. Or at least indulge in the club, and let the martini loosen you up a bit as you sweat your perm out while screaming at the top of your lungs “when love takes over, yeah!”. As a broke recent college grad, I prefer the latter, but you won’t go wrong dropping a few bucks for the full Vegas-esque experience.
I get it, Kelly. Always have and always will.
