Bruno Mars Continues To Show His Old Soul On “Young Girls” Single From Unorthodox Jukebox

After he recently stole the show as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live Grammy winning singer/song writer/producer, Bruno Mars keeps the hits coming. This time he is releasing another song from his forthcoming album, Unorthodox Jukebox. That song is “Young Girls”, which we all first heard when Bruno sang it as his second musical performance on SNL Now the official studio version is available online for all of us to listen. Elektra/Atlantic uploaded the song to Bruno’s official YouTube channel on this past Halloween. “Young Girls” is the second song heard from Bruno’s new album, following the official release of Jukebox’s first single, “Locked Out Of Heaven.”, which was first digitally released on October 1st.
“Locked Out Of Heaven” has been described by many critics as what happens when Bruno channels The Police in his songwriting, referencing comparisons to “Roxanne” and “Message In a Bottle.” However this time Bruno sounds like what would happen if Jeff Bhasker (fun. Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys and others) tried his hand at producing something Bruno could have written for a young Rod Stewart. It blends the right emotional mix of sadness and acceptance in a timeless soul that is expressed with a contemporary rhythmic production style. The Bhasker production comparison was made because he is someone who has continued to work closely with Bruno since their days playing in a band together prior to both of them making it in the music business. Bhasker was also a co producer on “Locked Out Of Haven” with Mark Ronson and Bruno’s Smeezingtons production group. Bhasker also worked on Bruno’s ballad “Taking To The Moon” from 2010’s Doo-Wop And Hooligans as well. When you look at the retro sound that Bhasker has helped create on fun.’s Some Nights, and the Doo-Wop sound Bruno has become known for, you can see how the two naturally connect when creating a sound that is like nothing else on the radio.
