Beliebers probably remember well that their favorite Pop star Justin Bieber was involved in an LA car chase with paparazzi on July 6th. Well, TMZ has now reported that 30 year old Paul Raef, the paparazzo alleged to be leading the chase, has now been charged with a total of 4 counts related to the incident. the L.A. City Attorney has stated that Raef was charged with 2 counts of following another vehicle too closely and reckless driving, with the intent to capture pictures for commercial gain, 1 count of reckless driving, and 1 count of failing to obey the lawful order of a peace officer.
Raef’s charges form the first case to fall under the under the new paparazzi law. That law makes it a crime to “create a dangerous situation while following a celebrity for profit.” Officials say Raef was in a pack of photographers that were speeding excessively in order to chase the Pop star. Reports state that Raef’s Toyota was clocked to be “well in excess of 80 miles per hour across all lanes and even, at times, on the shoulder.” Reports indicate that other motorists were forced to break and swerve to avoid collisions.
Justin famously called 911 under what appeared to be an off the top of head alias in order get the emergency resolved. If convicted of all counts Raef could serve up to one year in the county jail and fines totaling $3,500. Bieber was cited for driving 80 mph on the freeway. Understandably, Bieber told police that he was speeding to escape a gang of paparazzi who had been relentlessly chasing him.
