All Eyes On Clipse! Aug 5, 2009

Virginia Rao duo Clipse return to the music scene after their 2007 departure with Jive Records. This week they release their first single from their forthcoming Columbia Records release, ‘TilThe Casket Drops. The song is  “All Eyes On Me” featuring two Clizbeats featured artists, Keri Hilson and Pharrell Williams. Pharrell and his partner Chad Hugo (The Neptunes) are the main producers of the album as Clipse’ long time friendship with The Neptunes continues!

Despite working together creatively, Casket marks Clipse’ first release away from The Neptunes actual label Star Trak Records, after the label’s relationship with their distributor Jive Records & The Zomba Label Group soured. The conflict with Jive and Star Trak stemmed from when Clipse joined  other former Arista Records artists (Clipse’s debut album was released via Star Trak/Arista)  like Usher, Pink and Outkast as victims of the 2004  merger between Sony Music Entertainment and Arisra Records’ parent company BMG. As a result, BMG’s flagship label Arista was forced to fold, and the formerly independently owned Jive Records took  on the role of serving those artists under the Sony BMG formed,  Zomba Label Group.

Despite having multi platinum success with Arista, Star Trak and Clipse were ignored by an overwhelmed Jive staff who were rightfully more concered with the newly enlarged label’s extended list of franchise artists. This without a doubt caused friction between Jive execs and Star Trak founder/producer, Pharrell Williams.  The group’s second album and debut under Star Trak/Jive/ZLG, Hell, Hath No Fury was given little promotion in 2006. Since then  Star Trak parted ways with Jive Records and Sony BMG. They signed a new joint venture with Universal Music Group’s Interscope Records and have had success with helping relaunch the career of R&B singer, Robin Thicke. Other than working on their Columbia Records debut, Clpse recently appeared on the mix tape for Star Trak/Interscope new comers, Chester French, Jaque Jams Vol. #1 . As for the new album, other than The Neptunes, the albums other producers are runored to  include the likes of Scott Storch Timbaland & Danja, P. Diddy & The Hitmen, and Rick Ruben. The album is set to be released in October.
