AC/DC’s drummer Phil Rudd is trending on social media around the world today because of the unfortunate news that he was charged with both drug possession, and attempting to procure murder. Rudd, 60-Years old, was arrested during a raid in New Zealand’s North Island on Thursday morning and appeared in Tauranga district court in the afternoon. He was charged with attempting to procure murder, and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis.
Rudd is accused of attempting to hire someone to kill two other people on September 25th and 26th, while also threatening to kill someone else on the 26th as well. Although Rudd did not speak to media on the scene, reports indicate that he kept to himself, did not try to suppress his name, and did not wear shoes during his time in court Thursday afternoon. AC/DC responded to the news with the following statement:
“We’ve only become aware of Phil’s arrest as the news was breaking,” read a statement on AC/DC’s Facebook page. “We have no further comment. Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album Rock or Bust and upcoming tour next year.”
Rudd is currently out on bail until November 27th, He has been ordered to stay in Tauranga and to have no contact with anyone related to the charge of procuring murder as part of his bail conditions. Rudd was a notable absentee from the promotional material related to AC/DC’s new album Rock or Bust which is set for release by Albert/Columbia Record on November 28th.
