A Recap Of Kanye West And SNL After Pete Davidson Calls Him Out

The conversation about Kanye West and his SNL Pro-Trump rant at the end of the Season 44 premiere continues, as the cast weighed in this week to give their reaction to what they were surprised to be a part of on September 29th. Originally Ariana Grande was scheduled to perform, but had to cancel for what was sited in reports as “emotional reasons.” Since Kanye West replaced Ariana at the last minute, it was appropriate that her fiancé, SNL’s Pete Davidson addressed Kanye’s going off script during this week’s Weekend Update With Colin Jost And Michael Che.

Davidson explained  how  all the cast had to stand behind West as he wore his MAGA hat. Davidson can be seen with his head bowed, but said he decided “I want a career, so I leave.”

He continued by saying  “Kanye is a genius, but like a musical genius. Like Joey Chestnut is a hot dog eating genius. But I don’t want to hear Joey Chestnut’s opinion on things that are not hot dog related. I know Kanye is saying, this is the real me. I’m off the meds. Take them! There’s no shame in the medicine game. I’m on them. There’s nothing wrong with taking them. If I ever got on a plane and the pilot said, I just want all you to know, this is the REAL ME FLYING!, I’d jump out. Being mentally ill is not an excuse to act like a jackass.”

You can check out all of what Pete Davidson had to say on this week’s Weekend Update above, as well as some related news reports below to help provide some context to Kanye’s behavior. During Kanye’s episode, “Adam Driver/Kanye West” he performed his current single, “I Love It” with Lil Pump, and “We Got Love” with Teyana Taylor. Both these songs are intended for his forthcoming album Yandhi. That project was originally scheduled to be released on September 29, the same day as the SNL premiere, however TMZ has reported that the release was delayed to allow Kanye the opportunity to travel to Africa to re-work the sound and direction for the entire album. In the meantime the album’s current single is performing well. “I Love It” debuted at number six on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Kanye West’s 17th top-ten song and Lil Pump’s second top ten on the chart. Kim Kardashian West later announced that Yandhi would be released on November 23, 2018.
